Athena Media is a full service production company in radio, television, new media and print. It is a registered supplier to BBC Radio and specialises in factual documentaries.
In 2008 Athena Media produced The Last Wake, a radio documentary which explores the fading tradition of waking the dead in Ireland. It was aired on Newstalk 106. A podcast of this documentary is available here.

Athena Media’s three-part series, Field of Dreams for Newstalk 106, was broadcast on March 17th 2010. The series explores an alternative take on sports, from the Portumna GAA Club in Galway to an inner city sports initiative in Dublin. Field of Dreams is available as a podcast here.
Athena Media has begun production on a one year radio project for RTÉ Lyric FM. The project, An Opera for Carlow, is supported by the BAI Sound and Vision Scheme. It will create regular radio features for RTÉ Lyric FM’s In Tempo programme as well as a full one hour radio documentary at the conclusion of the project and a live recording of the opera itself.

Athena Media is a multimedia production company based in the digital media innovation centre, The Digital Hub. It is led by Helen Shaw, a senior radio professional who has worked with both the BBC and RTE and was previously MD of Radio at RTE and Vice President of the EBU’s Radio Committee. She won a Gold Sony (UK Radio Awards) in 1997 for her BBC work.
Athena Media produces radio in Britain and Ireland and also provides media consultancy, particularly relating to digital radio. Athena Media runs PodcastingIreland.ie which contains two online channels, Making Waves and Vhi Health Club. It produces audio and video podcasts and offers digital media consultancy for the sector in Ireland and abroad.
Additionally, Athena Media provides a full range of media and communications training. We run courses on podcasting, designed to build awareness, understanding and basic skills in online content and audio and video podcasting. We also run workshops on social media and online content for business.
